How to Use Bloglovin' to Grow Your Blog

Most of you have probably heard of or used Bloglovin' at some point in the past, but for those who don't know, Bloglovin' is a feed aggregator which allows you to follow all your favorite blogs and to easily read new posts in one place. But it can also be a powerful tool for those of us on the other side of the blog, and be instrumental in growing your blog's community and following.

There are plenty of steps you can take to make Bloglovin' work as hard as possible for you. Below are some of the best practices to grow your blog using Bloglovin'.

Claim your blog

The first thing you want to do after creating an account is to claim your blog. This will allow you to see stats and followers and to keep up to date with your blog on Bloglovin'.

Once your account is created, navigate to the "Blog Analytics" section of your Bloglovin' profile (this will be in the drop down menu below your profile picture in the navigation bar).

Click the button that says "Claim Blog" and a dialogue box will pop up where you can type your blog's URL and select it from the menu. After that a code will come up which will ask you to paste it into a new blog post and publish it on your blog - don't worry, you can delete it later. Once that's finished, come back to the Bloglovin' page and click "Claim Blog" at the bottom of the dialogue box. Voila! Your blog is verified as yours.

If you have any issues, or need more info, you can see Bloglovin's official tutorial.

Fill out your profile

Once you have claimed your blog, you'll want to fill out the blog info in the profile to give people a good idea of what your blog is all about. Navigate to "Blog Analytics" and you'll see a screen that looks like this:

Click the button that says "Edit Blog Info" and this dialogue box will come up:

Fill out your blog's name, description, and choose a category. Get as specific as you can with this category, because it will rank your blog based on followers. When I had my blog set to the "Lifestyle" category, I was like #6,000-something. But when I switched my blog focus, I changed the category to "Technology" and now I'm #25, which means that my blog gets seen by way more people when they browse through the blogs on Bloglovin'.

Add the bloglovin' button

Next you'll want to add the Bloglovin' widget to your blog's sidebar, so that people will know where to find you and follow you on Bloglovin'. Navigate to the dropdown menu under your profile picture, then click the "Widget" option. This will take you to a page where you can customize and choose which widget you want to display on your blog, then copy and paste the code where you want it to appear on your site.

Follow your favorite bloggers

If you haven't already, find some of your favorite bloggers to follow! This way you can keep up with their new posts, and share and comment on them, which will help build your community and possibly lead to them sharing the love and reciprocating in kind.

Turn off "the frame"

There have been reports in the past of Bloglovin' "stealing" people's pageviews because, by using their frame, it acts as an extension of Bloglovin' instead of redirecting to the other site. Whether or not this is true, or rather, still true, hasn't quite been figured out, but you can do your part to ensure that it doesn't happen to you. Go to your settings and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You'll see these options:

Make sure the box next to "I don't want the frame" is checked, and then save settings. You're good to go!
