Self care is important, there’s no denying. And treating yo’ self is definitely a fun way to boost your mood or just to feel special. But it can definitely get out of hand in a hurry. If you want to have a ‘treat yo’ self’ day but can’t spare the change, here are 5 ways to pamper yourself without breaking the bank.
DIY spa night
If you want a luxurious spa experience, but don’t want to pay big bucks to have one, try making your own at home. Pinterest has tons of DIY face masks, scrubs, bubble baths, you name it. Or just find some inexpensive ones at the drugstore. Grab a glass of wine, draw a bath, and wear nothing but a fluffy robe all day.

Make your favorite recipe
If food is your favorite thing (same), don’t spend tons of money taking yourself out to a fancy dinner. Find a recipe you love and spend time making it from scratch. Many find cooking relaxing and cathartic (those people have clearly never watched Cutthroat Kitchen), not to mention the feeling of accomplishment is much more satisfying when you’re digging into a dish that you created by hand, as opposed to something you ordered up at Olive Garden.
Browse Pinterest for all the recipes you could possibly want, or ask your mom or grandma for one of their favorite family recipes.
Get all dolled up
Sometimes you don’t even need new stuff to treat yo’ self, you just need to remember what you already have. Go through your closet and find something fancy that you don’t normally have an occasion to wear. Do your makeup super nice, throw on your dancing shoes and hit the town with your gal pals. Or just stay home and sip wine in a fabulous cocktail dress, that’s good too. Whatever makes you feel spectacular!
If buying new clothes is your vice (it’s definitely mine) then organize a clothes swap with your friends. Have everyone gather up clothes and accessories they don’t want any longer, grab some wine and cheese, and have a shopping spree in each other’s closets.
If your friends live far away, or if you all have varying sizes, then try apps like Poshmark or Vinted where you can buy, sell and trade gently used clothes and accessories. I’ve traded people dozens of times on Vinted, it’s the perfect way for everyone to get exactly what they want while spending the least amount of money possible.
Take a mini roadtrip
If you’ve got the travel bug but can’t afford hotels, AirBnBs or expensive plane tickets, then take a weekend getaway or day trip. Grab friends if you want to, or just hit the open road yourself. It doesn’t have to be a big drawn out adventure – just explore the next town over or drive to your favorite lakeshore or just venture out in search of a new coffee shop. In my experience, it does wonders to quell the wanderlust until you can save up for a bigger adventure.
