As someone who’s a definite introvert, sometimes I just need a weekend away from people to relax, unwind and detox. I decided to take this holiday weekend as a little staycation to do just that, so I thought I’d share my tips for the perfect staycation.
Treat Yo Self
Go all out – buy your favorite pastry for breakfast, indulge in a bath bomb or a cozy new blanket, buy that dress you’ve been eyeing. It’s all about you, so do things that make you feel spectacular, no matter what that might be. And you don’t have to break the bank either! It could be as simple as taking a bubble bath, sleeping in, staying in bed all day, or not worrying about work.
Give yourself a break
Don’t use this time off to catch up on laundry or clean your house or finish up a work project, if at all possible. Just relax, recharge, and clear your mind of all responsibilities and to-do lists and chores. It’s your time!
Try something new
Use this time to explore your hometown as if you were a tourist. Visit new coffee shops, stop in that little corner store you always walk past, discover a new park or field of wildflowers. Take yourself out to dinner at that new restaurant or treat yourself to a fancy drink at the local tapas bar. Seeing things through new eyes can be incredibly refreshing, and you never know what you’ll discover.
I know that being constantly plugged into all kinds of technology can eventually get really stressful. I find myself feeling really burnt out, and getting into a cycle of constantly scrolling and refreshing and never actually doing anything productive or relaxing. This week, I’ve forced myself to set down my phone, stay off my laptop, and read a book. As a result, I’ve already ready three books this week! It’s been incredibly relaxing and rewarding.
Creating something, whether it’s a painting, a craft project, a poem, or whatever, can be extremely cathartic and gets all the good juices flowing. Spend some time using your creativity for something fun, just for you.
